TIA-LYNN ASHMAN

Distinguished Professor of Biological Sciences, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh PA. She received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of California at San Diego, and PhD from the University of California at Davis, and was Postdoctoral Scholar at McGill University.

Tia-Lynn Ashman’s research program mines the interrelationship between ecology and evolution and focuses on plants and their biotic associates. It spans scales of single interacting populations to diffuse interactions within whole communities, and the feedbacks between evolution and ecology.

Tia-Lynn Ashman has published 203 publications and has an H index of 66. She is the recipient of a Humboldt Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the Distinguished Naturalist Award from American Society of Naturalists, Helmholtz International Fellow Award and a Provost’s Award for Excellence in Doctoral Mentoring from University of Pittsburgh. She has served on the Editorial boards of several prominent journals including The American Naturalist, Ecology, and New Phytologist, as well as on councils of American Society of Naturalists, and Society for the Study of Evolution.  She is deeply committed to outreach and expanding diversity within science.

RUBÉN TORICES BLANCO

Rubén Torices is an Associate Professor of Ecology at the University Rey Juan Carlos in Spain. He is an evolutionary ecologist who earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Oviedo and his doctorate from the University Rey Juan Carlos. His experience also includes serving as an Assistant Professor at the University of Valladolid in Spain and as a Postdoctoral Scholar at both the University of Coimbra and the University of Lausanne.

Rubén Torices’ research focuses on the evolution of plant reproductive strategies at both micro- and macro-evolutionary scales. Recently, he has developed a growing interest in the role of biotic interactions, including plant social interactions and kin selection, factors often overlooked on plant evolution.

With over 30 publications, Rubén Torices’ expertise has been acknowledged by the EU Research Executive Agency, who have enlisted his services to assess research projects. Currently, he leads a funded research project investigating pre-mating cooperation in plants.
